Episode #21 Storytellers

Our storytellers in Episode 21 are:

Kelly Molloy

Kelly Molloy, a math teacher from Long Island, decided to honor her 50th birthday by serving in St. Lucia on her first Global Volunteers service program. In Anse la Raye, St. Lucia, Kelly says she fell in love with everything both Global Volunteers and cultural immersion experiences. In July 2017 she served on our inaugural service program in Ipalamwa, Tanzania. For both service programs, Kelly crowdsourced the program fee, and she also raised money to donate textbooks in Ipalamwa. Kelly hopes to serve every year, and is already registered to return to Ipalamwa in 2018.

Amy Herman

Amy Herman was a teacher for 35 years, 34 of which she dedicated to the same school in Forest Hills, New York. She has been married for 30 years and has two children: Matthew, who is 24, and Kaitlyn, who is 23. Amy served on Global Volunteers’ inaugural service program in Ipalamwa, Tanzania in July 2017.

Robi Kronberg

Robi Kronberg earned her Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado and her Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Minnesota. She resides in Colorado where she works to create and sustain inclusive school communities. Robi has served on two Global Volunteers service programs, including our inaugural program to Ipalamwa, Tanzania in July 2017. She is already registered to serve again in Tanzania in 2018.

Dan Curran

Dan is a plastics engineer, an inventor (several patents in innovative alternative energy producing products), and now works with a different kind of alternative energy — an energy healer. This is his second service program – he served in St. Lucia and now Tanzania. While in Tanzania, Dan built an oven and molds that will allow garden boxes, a key element for RCP and getting nutrition to families in Ipalamwa. Dan lives with his wife in San Diego. He has a son who is getting his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines.

Peter Kelley

Peter Kelley is Global Volunteers’ Director of International Operations. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from American University. Peter has published three novels. He has lived and worked abroad in the Netherlands and the UK, and served with his family on Global Volunteers’ Cuba service program.

Gabe Hoffman

Gabe Hoffman works at Screen Pilot, a digital ad agency. He moved to Denver a little over a year ago from Minneapolis. He loves living in Colorado, but is still very loyal to Minnesota and their sports teams, specifically the Timberwolves and Vikings. In his free time he enjoys camping, hiking, playing sports, and hanging out with his new fiancé and their dog, Riley.

Michele Gran

Michele Gran co-founded Global Volunteers in 1984. She earned a Master’s Degree in International Communications, and previously worked in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors. For the past 33 years, Michele has served as Global Volunteers’ vice president and director of marketing. She’s led more than 50 service programs and serves on the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors.

Cindy Murray

Cindy is a producer of special events and corporate programs at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. She’s served on 20 Global Volunteers programs since 1997 in the USA and abroad as both a volunteer and a team leader. She has a dual Master’s Degree in Development and Human Resources Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre and Drama. She says she’s drawn to the “adrenaline rush” of ambiguity in her personal and professional life!

Our storytellers in Episode 23 are:

Tristen Robole

Tristen Robole attended high school in Amery, Wisconsin and will now be attending college at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He is planning on studying business administration, with a minor in communications or education. Tristen volunteered for three weeks in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in 2017. His volunteer experience trip was sponsored and all thanks to Walt and Paula Richey.

Sarah Young is an Associate Director of Human Resources for INC Research/inVentiv Health. She has led the Global Volunteers program at INC/inVentiv since 2013, facilitating the participation of 90 employees in volunteer missions around the world. She graduated from Eastern University with a degree in Communications and currently resides in Pennsylvania with her husband and two young children.

Carol Conzelman

Carol is a cultural anthropologist at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She is the Associate Director for the Global Studies Academic Program, Faculty-in-Residence for the Sustainability and Social Innovation Academic Program, and directs a summer Study Abroad program in the Yungas of Bolivia. Carol serves on the Global Volunteers Board and chairs the Reaching Children’s Potential Committee.

Lisa Graumlich

Lisa is a world-renowned climate change expert and distinguished professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her initial work was tracking the climate of an area using data from trees. She served in Tanzania in 2014 with her daughter Maya and again in 2016 to help establish the Reaching Children‘s Potential program. Read about Lisa and Maya’s journey here.

Tim Cunniff

As a 15-time Global Volunteer, Tim has served children and families on diverse projects all over the world. With an MBA in organizational management, Tim researches and resolves contractual issues for Triumph Aerospace Structures in Hawthorne, CA. He says his training prepares him for serving a larger goal through short-term projects with Global Volunteers. Read about Tim’s travels here.

Anna Victor Mwenda

Anna Victor Mwenda was born, raised, and educated in Iringa. She earned a certificate in records management from Tanzania Public Service College and has trained with the Community Bible Study (CBS) to obtain a certificate to teach children and youth. Before joining Global Volunteers’ Tanzania Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Demonstration Project as the Team Leader, Anna was an insurer with Prighose Insurance Agency and also worked for the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlement Development as a record manager.
